Fiat: Our Catholic Word of the Year
Our Word of the Year: Fiat
For years, one word has quietly guided The Little Catholic—not as a trend, not as a slogan, but as a prayer.
Fiat.
A simple Latin word from Scripture meaning “let it be done.” It was spoken by the Virgin Mary at the most pivotal moment in salvation history. Her yes changed everything.
When I first chose Fiat as our word of the year, it was because of Mary’s trust. Her surrender. Her obedience to God’s will, even when the path ahead was unknown. Fiat felt like a posture of faith I wanted this brand—and myself—to return to again and again.
But motherhood changes the way you see Mary.
And now, I see something deeper.
I see a fearless mother.
Mary’s yes was not passive. It was not naïve. It was brave. It was costly. It was spoken by a woman who understood that love always asks something of us. Fiat was not an escape from suffering—it was a willingness to walk straight into it, trusting that God would be faithful every step of the way.
As a mother, I now read Mary’s fiat through tired eyes, full arms, interrupted plans, and a heart stretched wide. I see her strength. Her resolve. Her daily yes—not just at the Annunciation, but in every unseen moment that followed.
Fiat becomes less about a single decision and more about a way of living.
Why Fiat Still Matters
At The Little Catholic, we believe words shape the way we live. What we return to, repeat, and carry close matters. That’s why our Catholic Word of the Year Collection, also known as our Script Collection, exists.
These necklaces are not trends. They are anchors.
Each word is chosen intentionally—meant to be worn close to the heart as a reminder of who you are becoming and what you are saying yes to in this season. Fiat reminds us to trust God with what we cannot control, to move forward even when clarity feels far away, and to say yes with courage, not fear.
Handmade with Intention
Every Word of the Year necklace is 100% handmade in California, by skilled hands that care deeply about craftsmanship, dignity, and meaning. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is mass-produced. These pieces are created slowly and thoughtfully—just as a yes to God often unfolds.
This matters to us.
Because faith is not disposable.
Because belief deserves beauty.
Because what you wear should reflect what you hold most closely.
A Yes We Choose Again and Again
Fiat is not a one-time word for us. It’s a rhythm. A return. A quiet prayer whispered in moments of joy and moments of surrender.
As mothers.
As women.
As a small family business trying to do things the right way.
This year, once again, we choose Fiat. Not because it’s easy—but because it’s faithful.
And because, like Mary, we believe that when we place our yes in God’s hands, He does more with it than we ever could imagine.
